What is ISPM 15?
ISPM 15 (International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15) is an international treaty that requires wooden packaging materials used in international trade to be treated to prevent the spread of invasive insects and plant diseases.
The standard applies to all solid wood packaging including pallets, crates, dunnage, and any other wood thicker than 6mm used to support, contain, or protect cargo during international transport.
Heat Treatment Requirements:
- Core temperature must reach minimum 56°C
- Temperature maintained for minimum 30 minutes
- Official IPPC stamp must be applied
- Treatment must be done by licensed facility
Non-compliant wooden packaging can result in shipment rejection, quarantine, fumigation at destination, fines, or destruction of goods at the importer's expense.

PreparationPallets are loaded into our industrial heat treatment kilns with proper spacing to ensure uniform heat distribution.
Heat Treatment
56°C for 30+ minPallets are heated until the core temperature reaches minimum 56°C and maintained for at least 30 minutes as per ISPM 15 requirements.
Temperature Monitoring
ContinuousCore temperature is continuously monitored with calibrated probes. Treatment records are maintained for traceability.
Cooling
Controlled coolingPallets are removed from the kiln and cooled in a controlled environment to prevent recontamination.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is ISPM 15?
ISPM 15 (International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15) is an international standard that requires wooden packaging materials used in international trade to be treated to kill pests and prevent the spread of invasive species.
Which countries require ISPM 15?
Most countries worldwide require ISPM 15 compliant wood packaging for imports, including the USA, Canada, China, Japan, Australia, all EU countries, and many others. It's always safest to use treated pallets for any international shipment.
What does the IPPC stamp mean?
The IPPC stamp shows the pallet has been treated according to ISPM 15. It includes the country code (DE for Germany), facility code (unique to our plant), treatment type (HT for heat treatment), and the IPPC logo.
How long does heat treatment last?
Once treated, pallets remain compliant indefinitely unless they are repaired with untreated wood. If repairs are made, the pallet must be re-treated and re-stamped.
Can used pallets be heat treated?
Yes, we can heat treat used pallets as long as they are structurally sound. We inspect all pallets before treatment and can repair minor damage.
What's the difference between HT and MB?
HT (Heat Treatment) and MB (Methyl Bromide fumigation) are both ISPM 15 approved treatments. We exclusively use HT as it's more environmentally friendly and MB is being phased out globally.
Licensed Treatment Facility
Our heat treatment facility is officially licensed by German phytosanitary authorities (Julius Kühn-Institut) under the IPPC framework. We are regularly audited to ensure compliance with ISPM 15 requirements.
DE = Germany
HH = Hamburg Region
HT = Heat Treated
DB = Debarked
